People ask me why college is so expensive. It’s simple — government subsidies. When the government guarantees loans and hands out grants, colleges know students can borrow more money. So what do they do? They raise prices. If those subsidies disappeared tomorrow, colleges would have to cut costs and lower tuition or lose students. Prices rise when easy money is available — it’s basic economics.
