Now What?

Now What?

Let’s take a deep breath think clearly for a bit.

My mind usually tracks to history and seeking wisdom from the past. But we don’t have to go back very far to see a pattern.

It was only six years ago that the entire world was in the throes of the Covid insanity. In the US, lockdowns, media hysteria, mask mandates, business closures, etc. had everyone stressed to the max.

Then came the “summer of love” with “fiery but mostly peaceful” protests. People were called cave men and white supremacists for expressing a different opinion. Cancel culture prevailed.

And in the midst of all that was the presidential election of 2020.

Now, I will never believe that 81 million people voted for Joe Biden and his basement campaign. But I do believe that most of the people who did cast their ballots for him were realistically voting for peace and quiet.

People were sick and tired of the hysteria, the screaming, the chaos. They just wanted calm. And the voters’ sole mandate for Joe Biden was to not be Donald Trump.

That’s it. The guy basically had to do nothing for four years so everyone could take a breather.

Instead, Biden (or whoever hijacked the presidency) decided to cosplay the second coming of FDR. He spent trillions, wrote climate fanaticism into law, went woke on everything, and hosted trans women who saw fit to expose their chesticles on the White House lawn.

Just like a Seinfeld episode, the Biden presidency was supposed to be about nothing. Instead he sprinted as fast as he could in the opposite direction, causing as much ruckus and controversy as possible to burnish his place in history.

Inflation soared and social divisions increased… so voters punished the Left in the election of 2024.

It’s not hard to understand why. People wanted calm, and the Left delivered the opposite.

Republicans came in with an equally simple mandate in ‘24: end the woke insanity, close the border, and above all else, bring down the cost of living.

Pretty simple. And, they did accomplish some of that.

But they also chased away Elon Musk— the one guy who was trying to cut spending (and hence inflation). Then they passed a “big, beautiful” bill that added trillions to the debt.

Rather than tackle high prices, excess spending, or deregulation, they decided to launch trade wars across the world. This upended global commerce and set off a chain reaction that led to foreign countries dumping their US Treasury bonds.

Interest rates skyrocketed as a result. Best of luck buying a house these days.

They also promised greater transparency. Instead they stonewalled on the Epstein files and engaged in memecoin schemes.

The colossal mistake, of course, was Iran. The merits of the war are debatable, but the war itself has been prosecuted poorly.

There’s an old expression in the military: you can’t be a little bit pregnant. You’re either at war, or you’re not at war. And if you truly ARE at war, you’re all-in.

But this conflict with Iran has been in a bizarre in-between state for months. It’s no longer a war, it’s a quagmire.

All of this craziness happened despite voters making a clear demand in 2024: bring down the cost of living.

But the Right made the same mistake as the Left did in 2020; these parties seem to think that anytime they win, they have carte blanche to do whatever crazy shit they want… and then when it doesn’t work out, try to gaslight the very people who put them in office.

That’s why voters are thrashing. At this point, I don’t think many people even care about parties anymore. Regular folks just want someone who will just be normal, i.e. who is neither a criminal, stooge, yes-man, or someone with an insane agenda.

They want someone who understands their problems and will try to fix them… regardless of party affiliation.

That’s completely understandable.

And to be fair, many of the candidates on the Left who won this week successfully communicated to voters, “We have a problem with cost of living.” The losers are still gaslighting their constituents and insisting the economy is doing great.

But admitting that you have a problem is not the same as understanding it. And you can’t fix a problem that you don’t understand.

The economy feels sluggish and expensive for two reasons: there’s far too much business regulation, and far too much government spending. And until politicians deal with those two inputs, nothing is going to improve.

Very few voters understand this simple point, and very few of the candidates they just elected do either. The winners think they can legislate lower beef prices. But that’s absurd.

Higher beef prices are the result of many factors— including higher energy prices, higher interest rates, and cumbersome regulations. But politicians only understand the symptom, not the cause.

My expectation is that the Left will fall flat on its face trying to bring prices down, and voters may very well thrash in the other direction again in 2028… desperately seeking to fix a [rather simple] problem that no one can seem to understand.

And this is really the ultimate mistake. Voters, whether on the left or right, always think that their candidate is going to ride to the rescue and honor the mandate. I’ve made this mistake too.

Yet the track record is pretty clear; they fumble the mandate and execute some entirely different agenda instead… leading to disappointment, and then shock once the electorate flips.

At some point you have to take matters into your own hands. And that’s realistically what a Plan B is all about.
